Thane bus journey was bad omen for Kotharis

THANE: A visit from Bhayander to Thane by a Thane Municipal Transport bus on Tuesday turned out to be bad omen for the Kotharis, some of the survivors of one of the worst road accidents in the district, which claimed 30 lives and left an equal number of passengers injured.
 
Rumila and Natwarlal Kothari, along with their son Snehal, were coming to Thane en route to Dombivili to distribute marriage cards of Snehal when the bus drove into the parapet wall of the bridge on the Chena river and plunged into the rivulet.
  
A dazed and shocked Rumila, sitting by the side of her seriously injured husband at a private hospital, said their journey turned out to be a bad omen.
  
Her son Snehal, working in a publishing house, was to get married on May 9, Rumila said. Snehal was admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital.

She is relived that her daughter, who has passed seventh standard with flying colours, did not accompany her, finding the bus overcrowded at Bhayander.
 
Taruna said she visited the temple every Tuesday and today was a special occasion as she wanted to thank Goddess Ashapura has her daughter had passed her examination.
  
Taruna said she heard some passengers scold the driver for rash driving and had asked him to drive slowly. However, he did not heed their pleas before the bus plunged into the river.
  
She thanked Maa for saving her life.
 
The journey turned out to be the last for teachers Lopez and Pereira of the Thane civic school.
  
A number of school teachers went to the civic hospital when they heard of their death in the mishap.
  
Talking to the injured, it came to light that the passengers who were seated were among those who lost their lives, while those standing survived, though with injuries.
