Fresh violence in Vadodara

The groups clashed at curfew-bound Wadi locality and several huts were set ablaze at Nawapura, they said.

VADODARA: A mob attacked the Navapura police outpost and stabbed three more persons, including a Gujarat State Reserve Police jawan, late at night as violence triggered by the demolition of a 100-year-old dargah in the Fatehpura area earlier in the day, continued in six curfew-bound police station areas in the city.
 
According to police and hospital sources, four persons were killed, two of them in police firing, while more than 50 were injured, 16 of whom were admitted to the civil hospital here with bullet injuries, as police resorted to firing at several places after lathicharge and tear gas shells failed to disperse the mobs.
  
Late at night, fresh violence erupted in the curfew-bound Navapura, City and Panigate police station areas forcing the police to open fire at Navapura.
  
Police said a 500-strong mob attacked the police
outpost and stabbed jawan Kirit Chauhan and Anil Bechar Mali. The two were sent to the civil hospital in a critical condition. The outpost was ransacked by the mob and several shops and houses were damaged.
  
Reinforcements were sent to the spot which brought the situation under control after lobbing two dozens of tear gas shells and 10 rounds of firing. No one was injured in the police firing.
 
In another incident, Abdul Aziz Sheikh (45) was stabbed at Dandia Bazaar by a mob and was sent to hospital.
  
Mob violence and riots were reported from Ektanagar, Chipwada, Bharwad Mohallah and Mehboobpura late at night.
  
Miscreants engaged in brickbatting and set on fire about half a dozen vehicles. Armed SRP personnel were sent to riot-hit areas
  
Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah, who is camping in the city, held separate meetings with Muslim and Hindu delegations and appealed to them to maintain peace and communal harmony.
