JAIPUR: This is the bizarre story of a man who is bent on marrying off both his daughters to one man -- even though it will amount to bigamy -- saying it will ensure care for the elder girl who is mentally disabled.

Chittar Jat, a resident of Tumbipur village of Tonk district, is adamant about solemnising the marriage of both his daughters to the same boy on May 11 despite the intervention of the local administration. Chitar has two daughters, Janta, 20, and Mamta, 18.

The elder daughter is mentally challenged and is also speech and hearing impaired by birth.

“I decided to marry off Janta - what wrong have I done? If both daughters go to the same family, Mamta would take care of her sister as she not only knows her but also understands her,” Chittar told.

He has fixed up the marriage of the two sisters with 22 year-old Giriraj Chaudhary.

“I know that my decision will inspire other youths to come forward to help girls like Janta in some way. We live in an extremely orthodox society where bigamy is not allowed. When our society has broken rules on human grounds, we expect the government to do the same,” Giriraj argued.

He said if the government could find her another match, he would retract his decision.
