MUMBAI: The constant “flip-flops and misrepresentation of facts” by a section of the media, especially television channels, has upset the Mahajan-Munde family.

Pramod Mahajan’s harried brother-in-law, Gopinath Munde, even threatened legal action if the media carried what he called erroneous reports about “women and affairs”.

Pramod’s daughter Poonam Rao said the media should have exercised some  restraint given the situation the family was going through.

MLC Madhu Chavan said at least the print media had been tolerable, but the electronic media coverage was “horrifying and traumatic.” Omprakash Kulkarni, a close relative of the Mahajans, said that no sooner had the news of the shooting reached the place, a swarm of reporters barged into the Mahajan residence where his 90-plus mother-in-law Kamlabai Hamine lived. The frail woman was grilled with queries like what she felt about the incident, Kulkarni complained.

Living on a prayer

After Pramod Mahajan’s condition had somewhat stabilised on Sunday afternoon, members of the Mahajan-Munde family found time to relax. Poonam Rao for brief moments rushed  home to be near her child.

On Sunday night, the children were made to go home by Munde. They left around midnight after the second surgery was over.

The hours-on-end vigil at the hospital had taken its toll on brother-in-law Gopinath Munde whose feet had swollen. Both he and wife Pradnya (Pramod’s sister) were urged to take rest.

Party worker Mukund Kulkarni, who has been at the beck-and-call of the family, said, “On Saturday night I literally fell asleep on the stairs of the hospital on the 15th  floor.’’

Most relatives who had arrived from Ambejogai, however, did not stay back. Only close kin like brother Prakash Mahajan, Mahajan’s son-in-law Anand Rao, and Mahajan’s elder sister Pratibha have been camping at the hospital. But they too are now commuting from their residence.
