PM, President, Speaker express shock over attack

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has expressed shock over the attack on BJP General Secretary Pramod Mahajan on Saturday.

In a letter to Mahajan's wife, the Prime Minister wished early recovery to the BJP leader, who was admitted to a hospital after the incident.

"I learnt with shock about the unfortunate incident today, and about the injuries suffered by your husband as a consequence. Please convey my good wishes to Pramodji, and my prayers for his early recovery," Singh said in his letter to Mahajan's wife, before leaving for Germany.

President A P J Abdul Kalam expressed shock at the attack on senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan in Mumbai and wished him a speedy recovery. ''I wish him a speedy recovery,'' Dr Kalam said in a message.   

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee expressed shock over the incident. "I am shocked to learn of this incident. I have faith that Mahajan will fight back, and we all wish him a speedy recovery,” he said in a message.

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also expressed shock at the incident.

Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna also expressed shock at the incident. ''I was deeply shocked  to know about the life-threatening assault on Pramod Mahajan...I  am confident that he will bounce back to normal life at the ealiest. I wish him a speedy recovery,'' said Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna in a message.

"Party workers and people across the country are deeply concerned over Mahajan's health and are praying for his speedy recovery," said BJP deputy leader in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra.

A number of political leaders, including Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray, former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi, State PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and former Union Minister Ram Naik visited the Hinduja hospital, where Mahajan has been operated upon, to know his welfare.

 

Bhujbal, while coming out of the hospital, told reporters that Mahajan was ''out of danger'' and a team of 4-5 doctors was treating him. He said he was hoping for a speedy recovery of the BJP leader.

 

Besides, Shiv Sena MP Subhash Desai, State Energy Minister Dilip Walse Patil and film actor and social activist Shabana Azmi also visited the hospital.
