After Hours spoke to David Morrissey in LA about his lead role in 'Basic Instinct 2'.

Sharon Stone is back as the ice pick-wielding psycho killer in 'Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction'. Only this time around, instead of Michael Douglas, it's David Morrissey who gets drawn into her potent world of sex and murder.

"The hardest part for me, was finding the crux of the character. I mean, he's a professional doctor, yet he's so susceptible to this woman," says Morrissey on his role as psychoanalyst Dr Michael Glass. "Why does she have such a powerful effect on him? So, the difficulty for me,  lay in finding out the 'why'."

Oh c'mon, even in reality one would be intimidated by the charms of Ms Stone. "I was intimidated before I met her because she's such a huge actress, but once I did, she put me at ease – she was very open and approachable," he says.

"We always got on and had a laugh, which is important when you're doing very tense scenes. It was like working in a pressure cooker, so in the downtime, laughter was a good way of releasing that tension."

Well, let's get to the part that everyone wants to know about - the sex scenes. While 'Basic Instinct' cashed in on the famous legs-uncrossing moment, the sequel has far more: Stone naked with other women, Stone naked with Morrissey, Stone tightening a belt around Morrissey's neck mid-coitus.

"The belt thing was a little different, and it was also logistically tough," laughs Morrissey. "The threesome was difficult only because it was on the last day of shooting — the shoot lasted three-and-a-half months, and by then everyone was really tired. But with sex scenes, you just have to go with it; you have to jump right in."

Next seen opposite Hilary Swank in 'The Reaping', Morrissey will also be directing 'The Carnal Artist'. Ask him about his thoughts on Indian cinema, and he gushes, "I'm a big fan of 'Salaam Namaste' and 'Monsoon Wedding'. I've done a TV series with Om Puri, and Jimmy Mistry is a good friend. I love the singing and dancing — the whole spectacle of Bollywood."
