Walkathon in Pune for increasing awareness about elderly abuse

Pune: On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) , Sunday June 15, International Longevity Centre, India (ILC) has organised a mini walkathon and seminar on 'Elder abuse and the health of the elderly' in the city.
This two kilometer walkathon is open to allvand will start at 8.30 am from Raja Mantri Park in Erandwane and will end at Indian Law Society (ILS) College auditorium. More than 300 elderly citizens and officials from ILC and volunteering organisations will participate in it. Chairman of ILC. Dr Sancheti, the Guest of Honour at the event, will deliver a lecture on 'Elder abuse and health of the elderly'; and volunteers will perform a skit.
CS Pathak, an official from ILC, said, "The competitive world of today, industrialism and increasing cost, among other reasons, has led to formation of nuclear families. Elderly parents who can't stay separately or go to an old-age home are being harassed."
