While Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning to increase the water cess during its general body meeting, residents in the city have been complaining about the irregular water supply from a long time. People living in areas like Bavdhaan and Undri talking to iamin said that there are days when they don't get water supply at all. The residents said that PMC should ensure proper water supply to all the areas before going ahead with raising the tax.

Col (Retd) Shashikant Dalvi, chairman, Greenland-2, a residential society in Viman Nagar, speaking with iamin said, "Pune city’s water distribution is concentrated in the central areas. While the fringe areas are developing fast, the water lines are not properly laid to suffice the needs of the population there." Dalvi added that as outskirts of the city are at a high altitude, the residents find it difficult to access ground water as well.

The citizens are also concerned about the shortage of water in the upcoming summer season. The residents feel that they will have to look for options even before the summer arrives so that they have enough water for usage.

Residents of Bavdhaan area have raised questions regarding the increase in water cess while the supply remains irregular most of the times. B Khare, a resident, said, “PMC needs to provide us with basic amenities before increasing our water cess. We will pay more if the water supply is regular.”

Officials of PMC while reacting to the complains of the people said that they are trying to increase the supply of water in the fringe areas and work for the same is also being carried out. The official added that they are as of now only increasing the commercial water cess.
