Real estate agent held for bigamy, cheating

He lured victim by promising to divorce his first wife, cheated her of Rs4 Lakh.

The Dattawadi police on Tuesday arrested a 45-year-old real estate agent on charges of cheating and bigamy. His two friends were also arrested for abetting to the crime.

The action was taken after the victim, a 30-year-old woman living on Sinhagad Road, lodged a formal complaint against Kishore Rambhau Mandalik (38) and his two friends. Police said that Mandalik married the victim, a commerce graduate, assuring her of divorcing his first wife but failed to keep his promise. Moreover, he also extracted Rs3.95 lakh from the victim, who has done some modeling assignments.

Mandalik is a resident of Dhankavdi. His friends Alhad Prahlad Pasalkar (40) of Mhada Colony in Laxminagar and Narendra Nandlal Dikshit (43) of Shukrawar Peth have also been arrested for helping him.

According to the police, the victim met Mandalik at an ashram where she often used to go sometime in 2010. The two later fell in love and decided to marry. So much so that the victim also gave him a cheque for Rs3.95 lakh.

Mandalik was already married and had told the victim that divorce proceedings are on and soon he will get separated from his wife. The two got married at the victim’s residence in the presence of two priests. Later, when Mandalik failed to secure divorce, the victim decided to lodge a complaint against him.

On Tuesday, Mandalik and his friends were produced in the court of judicial magistrate (first class) Jyoti Kotnis for remand hearing. The police sought seven days police custody for the trio. Assistant public prosecutor BR Patil submitted to the court that the police need to probe the trio. The court then remanded the three in police custody till Wednesday.
