Enough is Enough: Harassed by eve teasers, std IX girl hangs self

Pune: Fed up of constant eve-teasing and harassment by three persons for the past two months, a standard IX student hanged herself to death at Varvand village in Daund taluka, about 70 km from Pune on Monday. The girl was living in constant fear as the suspects had threatened to kill her parents if she did not accept the marriage proposal of one of them.
The Yavat police arrested the three suspects Pinya alias Jalinder Mahadev Chowdhary, and his friends Kumar Raut and Santosh Mugutrao Divekar on Wednesday. They are residents of the same village where the girl lived.
According to the police, the deceased was a student of the village school, which is a kilometre away from her home.
"Jalinder is a married man, still he was after the girl and wanted to marry her. He and his two friends used to harass her regularly. They would follow her on a motorcycle after her school hours," police sub-inspector SP Jadhav of Yavat police station told dna.
"The three used to tell the girl that her parents would be mowed down by a vehicle if she rejected Jalinder's marriage proposal. The girl had also told her parents once, but they were helpless as Jalinder's family is rich and powerful. On Monday, when the girl came home from school, her parents were at the farm. She tied a dupatta to the ceiling fan and hanged herself. Her parents came to know about the incident when they returned home. The girl did not leave any suicide note, but the parents were aware about Jalinder's harassment following which they filed a case against the suspects," Jadhav added.
They arrested suspects will be produced them before the court on Thursday.
