Even as the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education cancelled the index number of SP College and specified that the fate of its 800-odd students in Std XII is the headache of the college management, Anant Mate, vice president, of SP College management said they have filed a writ petition in the high court on Thursday against the decision of the board.

Late on Thursday evening, the board office received a fax asking them to appear in the court for the hearing on Friday.

Speaking to dna, Mate said they had approached the court on Thursday and the process of filing the write petition was complete.

Clarifying the issue over which the index number was cancelled, Mate said since the mark sheet was issued by the board, it is their responsibility to register the case against the student.

“It is true that the board has sent the college several reminders for filing the case. How can the college file a case when the board had issued the mark sheet? In this case, they are the authority to lodge the complaint,” said Mate.

He said that the college’s role is just of a mediator between the students and the board. He however said they would ensure that the students and the parents would not suffer.
Pushpalata Pawar, secretary of the board, said they have received a fax from their lawyer in Mumbai that there is hearing on the complaint filed by the SP College management before the high court on Friday.
