Army jawan arrested for rape in Wanowari

Pune: The Wanowari police have arrested an army jawan for allegedly raping a 35-year-old sugarcane juice seller near Empress Garden in the Wanowrie area on Sunday. Shockingly, the jawan was on duty and raped the woman in an army tent.The arrested jawan has been identified as Madhukar Ram Dede (41), a resident of Pune Sub Area on the Race Course Road, and is originally a resident of Dharashiv in the Tuljapur tehsil of Osmanabad.Assistant Police Inspector (API) Rahul Gaud, who is the investigating officer for the case said, "The victim and her husband hail from Ahmednagar, and come to Pune every summer to earn a living selling sugarcane juice. The duo park their wooden cart near Empress Garden and sell juice. Dede is posted in the rank of Havaldar at the Maratha Battalion located near Empress Garden.""Dede asked the victim to fetch two glasses of sugarcane juice inside the tent, where he was sitting. He threatened her with dire consequences, and raped her. When the victim's husband found out about the incident, he went to Dede and questioned him over his behaviour." Gaud added.Dede instead assaulted the victim's husband, threatening to get the duo evicted from the area, Gaud added. The victim immediately rushed to Wanowrie police station, and lodged a complaint against Dede. A team of Wanowrie Detection Branch (DB) officials, led by API Gaud met senior officials of the Pune Subarea and after obtaining necessary clearances and completion of formalities placed Dede under arrest.
