Prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s invitation to his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Gilani to watch the cricket World Cup semi-final match between India and Pakistani in Mohali on March 30 has roused the Shiv Sena’s ire.

The party on Sunday asked Singh to send two extra tickets for 26/11 terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab and Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru so that they can join him in Mohali.

“If Pakistan is so dear to him [Singh], he should also send two tickets to Kasab and Afzal Guru. Those two should also be invited to watch the semi-final. Their presence in Mohali may help the peace process between the two countries,” taunted Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut.

Raising questions over the invitation, the Sena leader said that he should have invited his counterparts in Australia and South Africa as well to watch the games between India and these countries. “If this invitation is aimed at building peace between two countries, the Australian PM should also have been here. After all, Indian students have been attacked in Australia for quite some time now. If he [the Australian PM] had come, that problem could have been sorted out too,” he said.

Raut added that the invitation has been extended for the appeasement of Muslims. “The country has attacked us several times — either directly or through means of terror. And yet we continue to welcome them,” he said.

Sena chief Bal Thackeray has in the past threatened to carry out agitations against the Pakistani team if it reaches the final of the World Cup that is to be played in Mumbai, the Sena fortress, on April 2.

When asked whether the party will protest if the Pakistan team plays in the final in Mumbai, the Sena leader said that he did not want to comment at present. “We will talk about it after March 30. I do not want to comment on it right now, as we do not know who will be in the final,” said Raut.
