Uddhav Thackeray trashes allegation of foreign funding to Jaitapur stir

Rubbishing allegations of foreign funding to the proposed Jaitapur nuclear power project in Ratnagiri district, Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray today said that those who are willing to go ahead with the project should be probed.

"If somebody feels that money is being given to protest against the Jaitapur nuclear power project, then I think they are with rotten heads," Uddhav told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

MPCC spokesperson Sachin Sawant had yesterday in a letter to the Minister of State in PMO V Narayansamy sought a probe against the NGOs associated with the stir and the Shiv Sena, which is spearheading the campaign against the project.

The demand was made in the backdrop of the Centre initiating action against certain NGOs opposing the Kudankulam nuclear power project in Tamil Nadu.

Refuting the allegations, Uddhav, however, said that perhaps those people should be investigated who have the willingness to go ahead with the project, despite opposition from the locals.

Alleging that the proposed 9,900 MW plant was a foreign project, the Sena leader said, "They (pro-nuclear project) don't care if people lose their life. Foreigners are only executing the project."
