Now you can expect food and breakfast at its right time even if your train is delayed. Following rise in complaints of passengers being denied food in express trains, such as Rajdhani and Duronto that are delayed much beyond schedule, the train’s pantry staff will now serve breakfast, lunch and dinner at the right time, however late the train may be.

Till now, long-distance passengers of these express trains were offered limited meals and they had to go hungry if the train was delayed.

According to the new rule, catering services for passengers on board the Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto express trains that are delayed will be provided food according to the full menu.

“The ministry has worked out details with the finance department so that money is not a problem and meals will now be available for the benefit of commuters,” a senior Western Railway official said.

“There were instances of Rajdhani getting delayed during the Jat protests a few months ago. The train used to be detained for hours with hungry passengers inside, if it had not stopped at a station. To overcome such problems in the future, the railways have worked out this policy,” he said.

“Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains are the pride of Indian Railways that competes with the airline sector. Any inconvenience to its passengers is a loss of face for railways,” he added.
