It’s getting worse, 3 more patients critical in Pune

The condition of three more people suffering from influenza A H1N1 is stated to be critical. They were tested positive on Saturday and were admitted to the Sassoon General Hospital’s Infosys building.

One of the three patients is a 13-year-old student of Ahilya Devi High School in Narayan Peth in the city. She was suffering from acute respiratory syndrome.

Only those patients suffering from swine flu whose condition is serious have been admitted to the Infosys building. They have been put on ventilators.

Of these three critically-ill patients, two were referred to Sassoon Hospital by private hospitals. The other two patients include a 42-year-old male teacher from Kedgaon village and a 19-year-old boy, a resident of Kasba Peth area of the city.

The boy was already admitted to the block 15 of the Sassoon hospital and was shifted to Infosys building on Saturday night. “The teacher was referred by Noble Hospital, while the girl student was referred to us by KEM hospital,” said Dr Pandurang Pawar, medical superintendent of the hospital.

At present, six patients are admitted at the Infosys building of the hospital. Initially, three patients were admitted at Sassoon. Their condition was critical. They included a 35-year-old pharmacist, a 36-year-old Ayurveda doctor and a six-year-old student.

Apart from these six cases, three more suspected cases of swine flu have been admitted to Sassoon General Hospital on Saturday.

“Their condition is also serious. We are awaiting the reports of their throat and nasal swabs,” added Dr Pawar.

According to Dr Pawar a small surgical procedure was carried out on the Ayurveda doctor for proper ventilation through windpipe which expands the lungs and helps in breathing easy, said Pawar.
