The eldest grandson of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, Jaydeep, wants to enter politics. But he is not sure which party to choose — the Shiv Sena or the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

Jaydeep, 25, is the son of Thackeray’s second son, Jaydev. A degree holder in fine arts, he is working as an art director with a  leading advertising firm. Speculations about him entering politics began after he visited MNS official Akhil Chitre’s Ganesh mandal.

“I am thinking of joining politics by taking some time off from advertising,” Jaydeep admitted to DNA. “But I still have not decided which party to join. Both Raj kaka (uncle) and Uddhav kaka are close to me.”

Jaydeep is very fond of Thackeray too. He was with his aja (grandfather) when family physicians called on the latter for a routine check up on Monday evening. He had also accompanied Thackeray when he was undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital a few months ago.

“The Thackerays have a tradition in art and politics. I also like fine arts. The creative streak runs on my mother’s side too,” said Jaydeep, whose grandfather (mother’s father) is well known Marathi writer Madhusudan Kalelkar.

Chitre, however, played down Jaydeep’s visit to his Ganesh pandal. “He is a close friend of mine, and has been visiting our Ganpati for the past six years. This time, he was noticed by the media,” Chitre said.

A source said that Jaydeep is keen on launching an NGO before entering politics. This, he thinks, will help him connect with the youth better. He has also worked with director Ashutosh Gowarikar as an assistant. Thackeray has five more grandsons — Nihar, Aishwarya, Rahul, Aditya and Tejas.
