A 38-year-old woman was mowed down by a speeding tempo in Malad (East) on Tuesday night. The Kurar police have arrested the tempo driver, Mohan Kadam, from the spot.
According to the police, the deceased, Sunita Kanaujia, a housewife, resides in the Ambedkar Nagar area in Appapada, Malad (East). The incident took place around 8pm when Kanaujia was walking towards her home.
“The tempo driver lost control over the vehicle and hit Kanaujia from behind. The impact threw the victim a few meters away,” said a police officer. “When the victim fell on the ground she sustained severe injuries in her neck and abdomen,” said senior inspector Subhash Dafle.
The locals nabbed Kadam and handed him to the police. “Locals rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries,” said Dafle.
