Home minister RR Patil announced in the assembly on Wednesday that the Mahalaxmi slum rehabilitation scheme irregularities would be investigated as a test case.
The minister made this announcement while admitting to the huge irregularities in redevelopments under the scheme.
The issue of the SRA schemes was debated in the assembly during the question hour on Wednesday. Nitin Bhosale and Ram Kadam of the MNS raised the question about the SRA scheme at Dhobi Ghat in Mahalaxmi which was being investigated by CID. Patil said the schemes are largely implemented for the benefit of the developers instead of slum residents.
"Filing complaints and then withdrawing them is a common practice in the SRA development. The developers, too, manipulate things by instigating few residents to snatch away projects from the competitors," Patil said.
