Taking forward its plan to turn Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) into a top-notch business district, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to setup a world-class fountain in the complex. Though details of the beautification project are yet to be finalised, the authority plans to soon start work on it.

A senior MMRDA official, who confirmed the development, said, “We have decided to erect a water fountain in BKC. The location of the fountain, which will be of international standard, will be somewhere close to the National Stock Exchange (NSE). The metropolitan commissioner has already given a go-ahead to the project and has instructed concerned officials to begin the process of constructing a unique fountain,”

According to the official, the fountain will be constructed through a normal tendering process and it will operate on recycled water.

The authority also plans to build an international convention centre in the metropolitan region. “Though the plan is at a conceptual stage, the authority wants to develop a centre on the lines of the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi,” added the official. However, the location for the centre is yet to be decided. “We can acquire land from the state government,” said the official.
