Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Rajendra Mohite, who is investigating the case filed against killer ST bus driver Santosh Mane, on Tuesday submitted a document in the court of judicial magistrate first class Umeshchandra More which contained opinion of psychiatrist Dr SJ Mahamuni from Regional Mental Hospital, Yerawada who had evaluated Mane.

Dr Mahamuni has observed in the document that was submitted to the court, “Mane was conscious, cooperative and communicative. But he was under thought of delusion and persecution. He was disturbed and felt that the whole world is against him and his family. During the observation, Mane told the doctor that he was undergoing psychiatric treatment by Dr Dilip Burte in Solapur but later stopped the treatment.’’

Judge More on February 18 had asked Mohite to be present before the court, along with Mane’s original medical documents. Complying with the directives of the court, Mohite produced the
document in the court.

Mane was arrested on January 25 for mowing down 8 people on city roads after hijacking a state transport bus. He was examined by a team of doctors from Sassoon General Hospital. Agarwal’s application challenged the certificate on the grounds that it was not issued as per the procedure mentioned in section 24 of the Mental Health Act, 1987 and prayed that Mane be sent to a mental hospital. Hearing on the plea is now posted on Thursday.
