Rs20 lakh cash and gold stolen on train in Mumbai

Cash and gold biscuits worth around Rs20 lakh concealed in a cotton bag, belonging to Mumbai based jeweler, was stolen aboard the Dadar Terminus bound Chennai Express  on Monday.

Byculla resident, Tarun Jain, 30, supplier of designs of gold ornaments visited Karnool district in Andhra Pradesh last week to sell gold biscuits and ornaments.

After collecting Rs10 lakh from local jewelers and gold biscuits weighing 400 gms, he concealed it in cotton bag and boarded the second AC coach of Dadar- Chennai Express at Cuddapah station in Andhra Pradesh at around 3.45pm on May 22.

Next day at 5.15am, he woke up near Kalyan station and the cotton bag with the gold and cash was missing. Jain searched in the coach for it and complained to the TTE and coach attendant.

The TTE told him to lodge a complaint at Dadar railway police station. A police officer added that they have registered a case of theft and sent the case papers to Kalyan railway police station as the theft came to light there.

“We have registered a case and are investigating the case,” said senior police inspector AR Jagtap of the Kalyan railway police.
