The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), which published the draft of the revised development plan (DP) of the old city limits on Thursday, has allegedly converted water bodies into land for residential purpose.

Pune Janhit Aghadi Sangh (PJAS)president Ujjwal Keskar alleged that as per the map of the revised DP, the size of water bodies in Pashan and Yerawada has shrunken in the draft development plan as compared to the DP map of 2007.

“There is a phenomenal change in the size of Pashan Lake,” he said.

He added that similar was the case of the water body at survey number 47 in Yerawada.
Keskar said, “I have brought this to the chief minister’s notice. The matter has been now forwarded to the urban development department.”

Keskar added, “A significant area under water bodies is converted into residential zone. This is an objectionable change and will put unnecessary pressure on the environment.”

He demanded that the change of land from water body to residential zone be cancelled.
“There should be an inquiry by the anti-corruption department or the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the issue,” he said.

He said, “According to the existing land use, a plot meant for communication and transport reservation has been shown for industrial purpose in Gultekdi. Also a plot on Sinhgad Road near PL Deshpande Garden meant for semi-public purpose is shown for industrial purpose in the DP. Survey number 440 and 441 in Salisbury Park reserved for semi-public purpose has been made to residential zone.”

A senior PMC officer said, “We used the existing land as base for preparing the proposed land use to be included in the draft DP.”

When asked about the changes made in the zones, he said, “The type of reservation may change during the revision of the DP according to the requirement of the area. Hence, we have changed some purpose of reservations.”
