Deepak Prasad had been living at his friend’s home in Malwani for the past four months. But, instead of being grateful, the 28-year-old kidnapped his friend’s three-year-old daughter on Sunday.

According to the police, the accused, Deepak Prasad, wanted to marry his friend Asharfilal Tiwari’s wife Sangeeta. When she refused, he kidnapped their daughter, Payal.

Prasad and Tiwari sell fish in Malwani and Malad. “Last week, Tiwari left for his native place in Uttar Pradesh as his mother is very ill. Taking advantage of the situation, Prasad proposed to Sangeeta, but she refused,” said V Aandhale, senior inspector, Malwani police station.

On Sunday morning, Sangeeta woke up to find that Prasad wasn’t at home and Payal was also missing. After searching for them in the area, she decided to file a missing complaint with the Malwani police.

During investigation, the police found that a few of the neighbours had seen Prasad leaving the house with Payal in his arms early on Sunday morning. But nobody suspected any foul play as was frequently seen with the child.

“Sangeeta told us about Prasad’s proposal and that he may have kidnapped the child to take revenge,” said Aandhale.

The police learnt that Prasad was on his way to Uttar Pradesh. “A police team has been sent to Azamgarh to look for him and the child,” said Aandhale.
