Pune's postal dispensaries to merge with CGHS

The postal department has finally received the communication from the assistant director general (medical), New Delhi, regarding the merger of postal dispensaries with the central government health scheme (CGHS) dispensaries. The union became a reality after a campaign of 15 years by the CGHS and postal dispensary beneficiaries.

Two postal dispensaries in Pune city at Pune Camp and Bajirao Road will be merged with the CGHS.

A letter signed by assistant director general (medical) Mahendra Kumar addressing the postmaster generals of Assam, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, North East, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand circle regarding the merger was received on Monday.

Postal dispensaries are meant for the staff of post and telegraph department, while the other central government employees availed of the CGHS facilities.

According to the letter, “A proposal for merger of 19 postal dispensaries with CGHS where CGHS is operational is under consideration of the Government. Pursuant to minutes of a meeting held in the main office of health and family welfare on May 4 this year, to work out the modalities of merger.”

All the existing cardholders of the 19 dispensaries are required to be intimated about the proposed merger and resultant requirement of payment of CGHS subscription as per current rates. Postmaster general (Pune division) KC Mishra, VSM, told DNA that the merger will be implemented soon. The letter states that the information be posted on the notice boards of dispensaries.
