Residents of Yamunanagar, Nigdi, led by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers, staged a handa morcha outside ward A office in Nigdi-Pradhikaran on Thursday to demand proper supply of water in the locality.

BJYM activists threatened ward A officer, Mustafa Phadnis, that if the water supply was not regularised within two days, they would step up the agitation.

BJP city president Eknath Pawar said on one hand, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was not supplying enough water to the residents and on the other hand, inflated water bills were being sent to the residents.

BJYM activists Aparna Manernikar, Vrushali More, Supriya Parab and Yamunanagar residents took part in the morcha.

Residents of Yamunanagar have been receiving water supply at low pressure for the last two months. The residents expressed anger with the civic administration for the erratic water supply in the evening.

The residents said though the PCMC had started the water supply helpline (67339999), it takes a lot of time to connect.

PCMC water supply department executive engineer, Pravin Ladkat told DNA, “Normally every year, at the beginning of the summer, the demand for water increases. This may have created the problem.’’ Ladkat said civic officials will inspect the spot immediately and will sort out the problem.
