PhD student in Pune commits suicide

Minakshi Rahul Ghogare (28), a PhD student, ended her life by consuming poison due to alleged harassment by her husband and in-laws at Nigdi on Wednesday. Minakshi’s father, Ventakesh Maruti Vevare (63), has lodged a complaint at Nigdi police station against her husband Rahul (34), father-in-law Ramesh (60) and Rahul’s sisters Nanda (49) and Amruta Salunke (27). All have been arrested and have been remanded in police custody till Tuesday.

Rahul works as quality manager in a Vimannagar-based software company while Minakshi is doing her PhD. Senior inspector NS Bhosale-Patil told DNA, “Minakshi and Rahul were distant relatives and tied the knot on December 13, 2009. Ever since, Rahul and his family would taunt and abuse her.’’
