Residents of Sutardara and Shivtirthnagar on Paud Road on Tuesday took out a protest march demanding adequate water supply in the area.

The local Congress corporator, Ramchandra alias Chandusheth Kadam, and other party leaders led the march. The irked residents, mostly women, walked from Paud Road to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters demanding better water supply.

Kadam told reporters that local residents are having problems due to insufficient water supply and low pressure. Residents have to struggle for water. A boy, Ganesh Jadhav, lost his life in a scuffle that broke out for water in February.

He said if the municipal administration does not solve the problem of water supply and of providing basic civic amenities, he would launch a severe agitation.

Former chairman of the standing committee, Shiva Mantri, who accompanied Kadam, said there was good water supply a few years ago in that locality. Citizens are not getting proper water supply due to the carelessness of the civic administration, he said.

Deputy mayor Prasanna Jagtap said the water meant for Sutardara and Shivtirthnagar has been diverted to bigger housing societies. City president of Congress, Abhay Chhajed, and chairman of city improvement committee (CIC), Arun Dhimdhime, participated in the agitation.
