Pune has long shed its image of being a Pensioner’s Paradise. But one new image that the city seems to be donning is that of being a foodie’s paradise.

The community of good-food lovers seems to be thriving because the city offers many ways than one to meet like-minded people. There are clubs, groups, activities, website portals where they can meet others of their kinds, exchange recipes, share restaurant reviews and enjoy everything to do with khaana peena.

For instance, Green Tokri, established by German expat Dr Marc Cremer and his wife Benedikte in partnership with Zaheer J Vakil and Mohiuddin Mulla, is into salad farming providing Puneites with the freshest of lettuce, salad leaves, herbs and even salad dressing.

Nain Dalwani, a housewife who is a member of Green Tokri, said, “Every Tuesday, I receive an SMS about different salad leaves, herbs and dressing available for the week. I reply with what I need and it’s delivered to my house on Thursdays along with recipes of a new salad that I can make using ingredients I’ve ordered. The outlet keeps having free events like a ladies day out to its farms, salad making competitions and demonstrations.”

There’s also the chocolate club by ASAP (Any Surprise Any Place). As a chocolate member, you’ll explore an enormous range of chocolates and a monthly subscription ensures that every week, members or gifted recipients receive a new box of chocolates in different flavours. Santosh Ukande and Omkar Watwe opened a flair bartending school and a club called Boozers and Shakers on Karve Road where this dangerous skill is taught through short courses.
