Having created a record of sorts a few years ago — by collecting the maximum blood in a day — Shiv Sena is all set to create yet another record. This time, the party is planning to set up probably the largest health camp ever in Mumbai.

The party’s youth wing, Yuva Sena, on Tuesday will hold a massive health camp in the Andheri Sports Complex, on a day when the venue will also see the inauguration of the ‘dream project’ World Cup gallery at the hands of the Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray. In fact, the party in a bid to make the camp a big success has pulled out all stops, having roped in big names from the medical field, including JJ Hospital dean Dr Tatyasaheb Lahane and KEM Hospital dean Dr Sanjay Oak.

“There will be more than 50 doctors present at the free health check-up camp for heart, skin, eye, dental and bone diseases. Special attention will be given to children,” said Shiv Sena leader and former MLC Anil Parab, adding that cataract patients will be given special care and free treatment. Denying that the camp is being set up with an eye at a record, Sena MLC Dr Deepak Sawant said the party expected a huge turnout.

The run-up to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections has seen a number of political parties utilising populist tactics for garnering electoral support. For one, a job fair organised by Nitesh Rane’s Swabhiman Sanghatana made the organisation enter the Guinness Book of World Records for “giving highest number of jobs in a single day”.
