Anna Hazare and his mass appeal have been used to sell everything, from clothes to electronic goods. And now, the social activist and his ideology will be used to attract the youth towards filmmaking and other media studies.

A Mumbai-based film institute has organised a multi-city event across colleges with photography and filmmaking contests, where participants will be asked to depict Anna and his anti-corruption movement without using his face or name.

“The underlying theme of the campaign is ‘inspiration’ and who better to inspire and motivate the youth than Anna Hazare,” said filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who is also the founder and chairman of Whistling Woods International Film School that has organised the event. The 15-city event was kicked off recently and will be held across the country over the next 45 days.

There will be seminars, workshops and competitions in still photography, caption writing, short films, ad films and animation movies. Experts from the respective fields will be guiding the students by holding workshops and seminars through which the young blood will be encouraged to join the fold. “Thoughts will be shared on how the media and entertainment industry is ever-changing and thus requires innovative, energetic and talented professionals,” Ghai added.

Ujjwal Chowdhury, dean of the institute, claimed that this would be the largest media and communication seminar in the country. “The panelists for the seminars and workshops are top notch professionals and the students can learn a great deal from them,” he said.

Starting from Mumbai, the campaign will travel to cities like Indore, Pune, Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Guwahati, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata and more. Industry trends across various facets of media, including journalism, event management, advertising, PR, filmmaking, animation and television, will be discussed in order to spread awareness regarding the growing demands for creative and managerial talent in the sectors.

Another highlight of the event would be the felicitation of young professionals who have made noteworthy contributions to the industry.
