After carrying it out on trial basis, the city traffic police on Monday decided to ban parking on the left side of Laxmi Road permanently from Belbaug Chowk to Tilak Chowk.

The city traffic branch banned parking on the left side of the road on the stretch to facilitate walking for pedestrians. The 1,400-metre stretch has four bus stops. The ban has widened the carriageway by 3.5 feet, giving more space to pedestrians.

People have to park vehicles on the right side of the road. If they do not find space, they can park their vehicles at the parking plaza in the area.

A press release issued on Monday by the traffic cops said strict action would be taken against those who violated the ban on parking.

The city traffic police and the Pune Municipal Corporation had planned a walking plaza from Ganpati Chowk to Shagun Chowk on Laxmi Road on weekends but they faced opposition from citizens.
