Hitting out at Maharashtra government for the violence in Mumbai during a protest against riots in Assam, BJP on Monday alleged the whole case smacks of "most perverted form of psuedo-secular politics" and an attempt to appease "infiltrators" in the northeastern state.

"It is the most perverted form of psuedo-secular politics.... Guardians of so-called secularism are seeking to highlight the rights of infiltrators," BJP Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters about the violence in Azad Maidan of Mumbai last week.

Two persons were killed in police firing on Saturday when the protestors at Azad Maidan in Mumbai turned violent. Several buses and vehicles were damaged during the protest.

BJP sought to know how there was an intelligence failure as only 1,000 protestors were expected while around 10,000 turned up.

Prasad said a protest in support of the problem in Kokrajhar and other parts of Assam acquiring violent overtones "is dangerous for democracy and not good for national security and national interest".
