The railway police at the Mumbai Central Terminus arrested 69 persons for their alleged involvement in movie piracy racket and seized pirated goods valued at Rs1.93 crore in the past one-and-a-half years.

Besides railway premises in the island city, the police also conducted raids at places such as Thane, Navi Mumbai, Uran, Alibaug, Pune, Parli Vaijanath and Aurangabad to bust piracy racket.

“In order to curb the sale of pirated items on the railway premises, the former Mumbai railway police commissioner Ashok Sharma had ordered in 2008 stern action against persons indulging in sale of pirated items on the railway premises,” said senior inspector Bharat Rane of Railway police station at Mumbai Central.  —Dayanand Kamat
