Mom-in-law says suitcase death accused took Rs1.70 lakh

Parvez Sheikh, the prime accused in killing of his wife Rehmat, with help of his two brothers and stuffed her body in a suitcase, took cash Rs1.70 lakh from his mother-in-law Salma Khatu Abdul Bari in June 2010 for his MBBS study in Mumbai.

In her statement recorded by the railway police, Salma Khatu, 51, a housewife from Motihari district in Bihar, reportedly revealed that she had paid cash Rs1.70 lakh to Sheikh after selling agricultural land in her native place.

Bari claimed the body of her daughter on Wednesday to perform the last rites. She  said that she had eight children and Rehmat was her second-born. Meanwhile, the police team collected the nikah nama (marriage certificate) of Parvez and the victim from a mosque in a Delhi, said senior police inspector Ashok Kumar Jadhav of the CST railway police station.

Sheikh and his two brothers- Tabrez and Haseeb who were arrested by the CST railway police for allegedly killing Rehmat, were further remanded to police custody till March 29 by the CST railway court on Friday, added Jadhav.

Rehmat was upset with Parvez’s second marriage in December 2010 with Arsia Qureshi, who was from Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh. She was quarrelling with him over  his secret marriage.
