Meru cabs hike fares

Due to the slow process of upgradation of metres, most Meru taxis are still charging old fares.

For the next fortnight or more, if you are a Meru customer, just pray that the taxi in which you are commuting has a metre that has not been recalibrated yet. The reason: Meru Cabs has recently increased its fares.

Due to the slow process of upgradation of metres, most Meru taxis are still charging old fares. However, about 500 Meru taxis have begun charging the higher fares.

However, chief executive officer , Meru Cabs, Rajesh Puri,  said that transport department rules permit charging tariff depending on the value of the vehicle, which is calculated after factoring in the costs of the vehicle, CNG fuel kit, GPS systems etc installed in the vehicles.

A senior official from the transport department said, “It (fare revision) was allowed to them about two years ago. They have now suddenly done it.”
