The Kothrud police have arrested a 24-year-old and his friend for allegedly abducting and murdering his mother’s paramour. The body is yet to be recovered as it was thrown in a canal about a month ago.
The suspects have been identified as Shashikant Sambhaji Jadhav and his friend Pramod Vishnu Karde (21) of Sadashiv Peth. The deceased has been identified as Rajendra Anant Sanas (42). His younger brother Ketan (36) of Kothrud has lodged an FIR.
According to the police, Sanas allegedly had illicit relations with Jadhav’s mother.
“On July 30, at around 3.45 pm, the accused abducted Sanas, who was on motorbike, near Paud Phata and took him to Khed-Shivapur, Nasrapur, Khandala Bavda via Pune- Satara Road. They consumed alcohol there and returned to Pune. The accused killed Sanas by strangulating him and threw his body and cellphone in the canal near Anandnagar on Sinhagad Road. Later, they threw the victim’s motorcycle (MH 12 DZ 7079) in the canal in Wadgaon Dhayari,” a police official said.
The police produced the accused before judicial magistrate (first class) SS Bose on Tuesday. The court remanded the accused in police custody till September 12.
Man tries to end life
A 30-year-old allegedly tried to end his life by strangulating himself at his residence. Assistant police inspector JY Holkar of Khadak police station lodged an FIR against Ganesh Jagtap of Kasewadi. As Ganesh is undergoing treatment at Sassoon General hospital, he could not be arrested. According to the police, Holkar on night patrol received a tip-off from the Sassoon hospital constable Waghchore that Jagtap, a habitual drinker, tried to commit suicide at his residence on Saturday night.
Young woman hangs self
Mental and physical harassment by husband forced Sunita Jadhav (30) of Ramnagar in Warje to commit suicide at her residence by hanging herself. She allegedly committed suicide on July 22. The deceased mother, Shalan Kamble (55), lodged an FIR with Warje police station against the deceased’s husband Gundu (32), a labourer. He has been arrested by the police.
