Maharashtra Foundation award for Padgaonkar

Renowned Marathi poet Mangesh Padgaonkar and social activist GG Parikh will be honoured, along with 11 others, with the Maharashtra Foundation (America) awards 2011. In its 17th year, the awards instituted by Maharashtrians living in the US, will be presented at Balgandharva Rangmandir on January 13.

It includes six awards for literature, six for social work and one for theatre. Padgaonkar will be given the Sahitya Jeevangaurav award, while Samajkarya Jeevangaurav award will be presented to GG Parikh. The awards comprise Rs2 lakh and a memento each.

Suniti SR from Pune, Subhash Lomte from Aurangabad and Bryan Lobo from Thane will be honoured for social awareness and for their contribution to the welfare of unorganised labourers. The award consists of Rs50,000 and a memento.

Writer Mangesh Narayan Kale will be feted for his collection of poems, Trutiya Purushache Agaman, while Satish Kalsekar will be honoured for his book, Vachnaryachi Rojnishi, and Mangala Athalekar will be awarded for her book, Mahapurushanchya Nazretun Stree.

Authors Chandrakant Wankhede and Achala Joshi will also get the awards for their books, Apulachi Vaad Apanasi and Ashram Navache Ghar respectively. All these awards comprise Rs25,000 and a memento.

Jyoti Mhapsekar and Magsaysay awardee Nilima Mishra will be felicitated for their efforts in the field of social welfare.
