Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday blamed the RTI, an influential media with corporate ownership, competition for TRP ratings, the tendency to level allegations without verifying the facts and the stand taken by the courts for the perception about rampant corruption in the government.

Replying to a debate on the opposition-sponsored last week motion about corruption cases such as disproportionate assets case against former Mumbai Congress chief Kripashankar Singh and the Adarsh Society scam, Chavan said when allegations are levelled, it amounts to saying that the individual is convicted.

"Due to the growing media, the individual has no scope to explain his position," he said.

In a veiled reference to criticism of his own performance, Chavan said though all this had brought transparency in governance, the administration had become more cautious, and then a picture was created that his government was not taking decisions.
