With the pressure on Pakistan mounting post 26/11 terror attacks, terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiyba (LeT) is setting up base in Nepal. This startling revelation came to the fore during the sustained interrogation of arrested Lashkar operative Omar Madani, who is in the custody of the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Mumbai police. He said that he has been based in Nepal since January this year, which has porous borders and, according to him, one of the key reasons for setting base there.

Madani is an alleged close aide of Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed, a prime accused in the 26/11 attacks. He was arrested by the special cell of the Delhi police earlier this month. The ATS sought his custody for his alleged role in the 7/11 train blasts as he is accused of sending Kamal Ansari, accused for arms training in Pakistan. He is also accused of sending many youths to terror training camps in PoK.

“He was assigned the task of recruitment of potential militants and raising funds for the outfit,” said a senior ATS official.

Apart from this, he was also in charge of flushing in fake currency and spreading the web of fake currency in India, particularly the northern belt. When he was picked up, fake currency worth Rs50,000 was seized from him.

Another revelation was that Madani was in touch with Safdar Nagori, who was the general secretary of the now banned Simi. Nagori is also a suspect in the Hyderabad blasts. Senior ATS officials also said that Madani was on a mission to reactivate the cells in north India, especially Uttar Pradesh.
