Hectic work schedule, unplanned shifts and inability to spend much time with family - such problems plague every police station. But the officers from Jogeshwari police station came together on Wednesday to forget their troubles for the time being and celebrate the birthdays of their 40 colleagues, which happened to be on the same day.

The birthdays of the 40 policemen, ranking between a constable and inspector, were celebrated at the police station with a three-layered cake. Each officer, out of the 40, was given a specific task to make the moment special. While some brought sweets, some arranged for potato chips, cold drinks and biryani for dinner.

It was an emotional moment for some of the policemen, as 15 of them had never celebrated their birthday like this. “This is for the first time I celebrated my birthday in a police station. This is indeed a special moment for me, as it has come after 30 years of service and celebrated with none other than my colleagues who share the same birth date,” said head constable Shobhnath Kharade.

“Around six months ago I got transferred to the Jogeshwari police station. In March, senior inspector Ravindra Bhosale asked me to find out the birth date of those working in the police station. It was a startling revelation that 40 policemen shared a birth date.

Bhosale sir then decided to celebrate their birthdays on Wednesday in a grand manner. Family members of the policemen were also invited,” said assistant sub-inspector Krishnanath Kamble. He added that this will be regular affair now.

Another constable, Ramchandra Namdas who was celebrating his 55th birthday, said, “I celebrate birthdays of my daughter and son every year, but for the first time my birthday has been celebrated in such a grand manner in a police station.”
