Parents who are worried about their child’s kindergarten admissions can relax till February, and still get a seat at one of the city’s prestigious schools. The Indian Education Society’s (IES) schools at Hindu Colony, Dadar, and Bandra, have decided to start the admission process for kindergarten under the ICSE board in February, after other schools are done with their admissions.

Most schools usually start distributing admission forms for junior and senior KG from November to January. But the IES schools, which introduced the ICSE syllabus last year, postponed dates of admission from December to February.

“The admissions for seven divisions under the state board are currently on, but those for three divisions under ICSE have been postponed to February,” said Sucheta Bhawalkar, principal, VN Sule Secondary school, Hindu Colony, Dadar.

The decision was taken partly due to several cancellations parents make during the season. Parents apply to more than one school and wait to get a seat in a preferred institution. They cancel the admission once they get the desired school. Around 120 seats are available for KG at each school under ICSE.

“It is very tedious when parents cancel after taking admission at another school, so we took the decision to do it in February. Only genuine parents will seek admission then,” said Shubhada Vinekar, principal of Manik Vidya Mandir, Bandra.

“I am glad IES schools have taken this step as I will still have an option for my daughter,” said Khar resident Nirmala Vyas.
