With the ICSE results out on Tuesday, students have already begun filling up their online application forms for admission to FYJC.

However, students and schools are confused over the calculation of ‘best of five’ marks.

While the best-of-five system requires the students to calculate their percentages based only on five subjects in which they have scored the maximum marks, city students are a hassled lot.

Students are confused whether or not to consider subjects falling in the group III category for ‘best of five’. Madhav Balasubramanium, a student of Maneckji Cooper said, “I have counted technical drawing which is a group III subject while counting ‘best of five’. My school has not informed me whether group III subject should be included or not.”

Due to the confusion, many schools have counted the group III subjects as part of the best of five, while others have not.

“Yesterday, we declared our results by counting subjects like technical drawing, physical education and other group III subjects. But today after talking to other schools we realised that they have not considered these subjects. We are dazed and will know for sure only during the admissions,” said a principal from a reputed school in South Mumbai.

“We follow conditional best-of-five as it is an SC interim order,” said Sudeshna Chatterjee, principal, Jamnabai Narsee School, Juhu.
