House breaking case solved, Rs 10 lakh recovered

After three weeks Kandivali police managed to arrest a 62- year-old watchman who had allegedly stolen gold diamond and cash worth Rs 15.66 lakhs from a residence of Businessman in Kandivali (west). The arrested accused has been identified as Ayub Allabaksha Sheikh and originally from Karnatka.

According to police, the complainant, Vishal Chhabaria, a resident of Agarwal Nirmad towar near Sukhshanti complex in dahanukarwadi in Kandivali (west), however the arrested accused Sheikh was working as watchman in the same building after providing his falls name Sanjay Patil to the security agency through which he was hired.

“Chhabaria told in his complaint that the incident took place in last week of October month when he had gone to Tirupathi Balaji along with his family. Looking the house was vacate Sheikh entered in the house after breaking the grill on the window and stolen gold diamond ornaments and cash worth rs 15.66 lakhs,” said senior police inspector H Pimpale of Kandivali police station.

After returning from Tirupathi, Chhabaria found his house was ransacked and valuables were missing. He lodged complaint in the police station and also came to know that the watchman of the building was went missing.

Police started investigation but they did not found anything about the watchman as he provided the wrong name and addresses to agency who had hired him

“Police then questioned several shopkeepers near the building and watchmen of the neighbouring building and came to know that the Sheikh was from Kolhapur and he used to call someone in Kolhapur” said Pimpale . “We then collected phone call records of two months of three telephone booths nearby the building and started checking all the numbers. Finally we found a number of Kolhapur and a team visited there and after that we learnt about Sheikh’s real name and also learnt that he used to stay in Kolhapur and his run a small shop over there” said another officer.

“We arrested sheikh from Kolhapur. He had mortgage the gold in bank and diamond jewellery had sold to jewellery shop owner. But we recovered booty to the tune of Rs 10 lakh” said police officer.
