The BJP is planning to intensify the campaign against corruption across Maharashtra.

The party leaders reckon that the biggest challenge is to keep the graft agitation alive after Hazare’s protest gets over. The decision comes in the wake of developments in Delhi where All India Congress Committee general secretary Rahul Gandhi has taken an aggressive stand on the Jan Lokpal bill.

The party feels that the hard talking by Gandhi has created a perfect pitch for the BJP to take its battle against the Congress to the people across the country. Senior BJP leader Madhav Bhandari said, “It is now a big battle between the Congress and the people. In Maharashtra, we will take to streets through demonstrations and small-corner meetings to expose the corrupt Congress.”
The top leadership of the party has come to a conclusion that they should now charter their independent course of action to expand their base among the masses.

The party feels that as soon as the action in Ramlila ground in Delhi ends it would be difficult to sustain the public participation, especially in the backdrop of the festive season commencing from September.

The state unit plans to rope in MLAs and corporators to use the festivals as an effective forum to continue their campaign.

BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde said, “The BJP has always been in the forefront fighting corruption  in the administration. Whether it was taking on the builders’ lobby or the oil mafia, we have been in the forefront. Our commitment to clean the system remains irrespective of developments at the Ramlila ground.”

In fact, the party has reminded how one of the major issues it raised during the 2009 elections was against black money stacked in Swiss banks.
