Guards lynch thief, held

Three security guards of the HCC were arrested on Friday for allegedly beating a man to death for trying to steal scrap from their vicinity.

Three security guards of the Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) were arrested on Friday for allegedly beating a man to death for trying to steal scrap from their vicinity.

The guards have been identified as Prem alias Tokri Soste, Rocky Karjai and Mangesh Kajole.

According to the Bandra police,  the incident took place on Thursday night when Haider Ali Sheikh sneaked into the vicinity of the HCC and was attempting to steal the scrap kept inside a warehouse near the Bandra-Worli Sealink.

The police sources said the guards dragged Sheikh and reportedly thrashed him with bamboo sticks.

“The accused repeatedly banged the thief’s head against a wall and hit him with iron rods,” inspector DT Patil said. The police said the accused beat him severely, leading to his death. The police said the victim was a petty thief who would often indulge in stealing such scraps. Further investigation is on in the case.” Said Deputy Commissioner of police Pratap Dighavkar. 

A similar incident had happened in April when labourers of  an under-construction building had beaten a thief to death at Kalina. The thief was attempting to steal the valuables of the labourer when they were sleeping
