Do you want to party till you drop this New Year’s eve?

The State Excise Department is making it easier for you to do that. It has sent a proposal to the state government to allow all hotels and pubs to be opened till 5am on New Year’s eve and wine shops till 1 am.

It has also given strict instruction to its offices to provide drinking permits within seven days of receiving the applications.

But getting the Excise Department’s nod is not enough as several other permissions are required to enjoy a hassle-free New Year.

To organise a party on your terrace, garden or a banquet hall, you need to take the police’s permission for a DJ, speakers, permission to organise a party, your society’s permission and time-limit permission. The police will give you permission for speakers and music by giving a receipt for Rs60.

If there is a need for police bandobast to avoid any trouble or to manage the traffic outside the party venue, you can get the police deployed after they are convinced by the reason. A police inspector will come for Rs2,000, police sub-inspector for Rs1,200 and a constable for Rs650. This also depends on the availability of policemen as they would be busy guarding important installations.

You can approach your local police station in advance and give an application to the police inspector.

Those who want to organise parties in a pub, hotel or at their own terrace or garden can get permission from the Excise Department by paying Rs8,500.

“We are trying our best for applicants to get their permit cards as soon as possible so they can enjoy their New Year celebration without any hindrance. We have got thousands of applications for permit cards for New Year as nobody wants any unnecessary trouble,” said Sanjay Mukherjee, excise commissioner.

Don’t buy cheap liquor
Don’t buy liquor from shops selling cheap imported liquor. The Excise department has found that many liquor shops are filling cheap liquor in branded bottles and selling them at discounted rates. “People should buy liquor from authorised wine shops. Do not buy discounted liquor as there is high possibility that it’s fake,” said Mukherjee.
