Seven months after the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) filed a chargesheet against Himayat Inayat Mirza Baig (29) of Beed, the lone accused arrested in the German Bakery blast case, the  sessions court framed charges against him on Saturday.

The charges were framed under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy), 307 (attempt to murder), 467 (forgery), 153 (A) (B) (promoting enmity between two groups) and other relevant sections of the IPC and Explosive Substance Act; section 10 (penalty for being member of an unlawful association), section 13 (punishment for unlawful activities) and other relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Additional sessions judge NP Dhote read out the charges to Baig in Hindi. Baig pleaded not guilty.  When the judge asked Baig whether he has to say anything, Baig said, “The case is totally false. I have been framed. I am not aware of the other accused as well as the forged documents.’’ However, according to ATS, the six accused are still absconding.

Special public prosecutor Raja Thakare submitted an application for taking 43 scientific reports from the Regional Forensic Laboratory, Pune, on record and exhibiting them in the case.

Thakare said these documents are admissible as evidence under section 293 (reports of certain government scientific experts) of the CrPC. The court has asked defence counsel to file their say on this application during next hearing on July 30.

Defence counsel A Rahman submitted an application for taking instructions from Baig to see the CCTV footage without the presence of the police and regarding Baig’s medical check-up. The court allowed the application after Thakre said he had no objection. Later, Rahman and his assistants Kaynat Shaikh and MB Sayyad spoke to Baig for about 20 minutes in the courtroom.
