Welcoming Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan's announcement that he would address post-cabinet media briefings only in Marathi, Shiv Sena has said he should also ensure Marathi was used fully in the state government administration.

"Chavan should ensure that work in Mantralaya (state secretariat) and the state government is done in Marathi with immediate effect," an editorial in Sena mouthpiece Saamana said today.

"What is the bravery in speaking in Marathi to Marathi journalists here? Chavan should visit Delhi Press Club and say that only Marathi will be accorded priority in Mumbai and Maharashtra," it said.

The chief minister should go to Delhi and say emphatically that Mumbai and Marathi language has degenerated due to the hordes of migrants coming here, the editorial said.

Chavan should also make Marathi subject mandatory in English medium schools and cancel recognition of schools failing to abide by the directive, it said.

Action should also be taken against builders who refuse flats to Marathi people citing the reason that they are non-vegetarians, it said.
