The residents of Krishnanagar (ward No.13) in Dighi area of Pimpri-Chinchwad have been getting contaminated water for the past one month.

Despite lodging complaints, the civic authorities have not solved the problem.
A social activist and resident of Krishnanagar, Santosh Walke, told DNA that the housing societies, Krishna Dreams and Aasha Deep, were receiving contaminated water.

“There have been instances when worms were found in the tap water. We informed the PCMC’s water supply department and the drainage department about the issue. But they did not take any action,” he said.

However, some civic officials visited the spot on Tuesday morning and found that the sewage water was entering the water pipeline.

The aggrieved residents said contamination of drinking water has been happening for the past 14 years. “We have been demanding adequate and clean water. There are around 2,000 people living in the area,” said the residents.

Savita Sawant and Jyoti Zambre said the residents had even
protested on the issue in the past. “But the civic body did not pay heed. How can the authorities be so insensitive,” they said.

The PCMC’s ward C officer, RD Gaikwad, said that he was busy in a standing committee meeting. He added that was not aware about the problem.
Gaikwad’s colleague, whom he asked to call up, was on leave.

The additional city engineer of water supply department, Pravin Tupe, said he was busy in a meeting.
